Food and Thoughts

Ahhh...what a week.
  1. sick kids-check
  2. sick mommy-check
  3. daddy goes out of town and comes back-check
  4. 2 fish gone to fishy heaven-check
  5. Kids and Mom to get better-check

Tonight I have a 6 hour wedding to shoot and tomorrow is my day of rest...after church. Haha.

Needless to say I had a couple of meals not cooked and leftovers were my friend.

This weeks meals (some from last week)

  • Blue Cheese Crusted Steaks with red wine sauce
  • Turkish Meatball Pitas with tabouli
  • Cumin Dusted Chicken with guac sauce (courtesy of one of my fave new blogs http://desertculinary.blogspot.com/)
  • Shredded Pork Tacos with a spicy slaw
  • blt's
  • Blue Cheese Burgers with sweet potato fries

I love food and I look trying new things when I have time. I love getting the kids involved though sometimes they reallly slow down the meal. :) But I have passed on the love of food to the kids...mainly my son. Yesterday at school it was career day. He wanted to be a chef. He loves food network and watching me cook. He is curious about spices and their smells. I am so lucky to have two children who are not picky. The only thing Drew does not like is fish, and I didn't enjoy it until a couple of years ago. So there is hope. Jordan will eat anything but is not a fan a veggies though she will eat them. She loves red bell peppers though, so I can't complain.

Ok, kids are begging for lunch. I will share the career day pics in a little bit, because he was so cute and proud. :)

Making Bread and Menu Planning

Since both kids are home today, we decided to make the whole wheat bread I have been wanting to try. I am also planning our menu for the week. Little steps to eat healthier and save money. :)

Here is what I have:

  • Mini Penne Pasta w/Spicy Chicken Alfredo (low fat version of course) with a side salad

  • BLT's with avaocado spread (going to use homemade bread)

  • left over night from this weekend

  • Turkish Meatballs with Pita Bread and a side of Tabouli (I will make a lot of tabouli to eat for lunch the next day

  • Thai Chicken Pizza

  • Saturday I am shooting a wedding- up to Chad

  • Sunday: Blue Cheese Crusted Steaks with Red Wine Sauce with green beans and whole wheat rolls that we are making today

Sleepless Nights

I sit here at 11:30 at night wide awake. Not because I have much on my mind or because I just really want to be tired and grumpy tomorrow. I am awake because my usually composed husband is rattling the walls with his snores. About 10 minutes ago our dog (Lola) decided to join in on the fun. I am about to plug in some earphones and listen to music until the paper wads being thrown at Chad's head finally make him roll over and be quiet, or until I run out of paper.

Yes, at 11pm every night I get irrationally mad at this man....I tend to forget it the next day. Because I love him and he is my best friend. Because he reads 2 chapter's of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Andrew with more animation than anyone will hear speaking with him on the phone. Because he will brush Jordan's hair after a bath until not one tangle is left and not one tear shed (something I don't seem to do well, she prefers daddy to brush her hair). He watches the kids when I have photo shoots without a problem. He can do this and put away 3 loads of laundry, clean the fish tank, change the air filters, and play ball with the kids in the few hours I am away. He rocks. He does. So I can forgive him of his snoring....in the morning. But not right now.
